Devanahalli, the birthplace of Tipu Sultan is 30 kms from the farm on National Highway 7, on the route to Bangalore
The new Bangalore International Airport is located in Devanahalli.
Tipu Sultan was born here in 1750. The home in which Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali stayed can be seen to this day. The house of Dewan Purnaiah, who was a high ranking official at the time of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan stands till this day. Apart from these houses, this town is endowed with quite a few ancient monuments such as the fort and strikingly beautiful temples dedicated to Venugopalaswamy, Nanjudeshwara, Chandramouleshwara, kalamma, Veerabhadraswamy, Ranganathaswamy etc
Devanahalli Fort: This fort was built in 1501 by Mallabairegowda. In 1749, this fort was conquered and occupied by Nanjarajaiah, the then dalwai of Mysore. Later the fort passed into the hands of Hyder Ali and subsequently Tipu Sultan. In 1791, Lord Cornwallis laid siege to the fort and took possession during the Mysore war.
Venugopalaswamy Temple: located inside the fort is endowed with beautiful Hoysala style pillars and frescoes that are very similar to the ones found in the famous Belur and Halebid.
